Youth Challenge Winners! From left, Elle McGlocklin, Heavyn Olea, Chantell Schultz

We are pleased to announce the 2011 Entrepreneur Youth Challenge top award winners.  Elle McGlockin representing her business Over-Joyed and the Mermaid Tears team of Heavyn Olea and Chantell Schultz were the winners of two $1,500 top prizes for this year’s event.  Jamestown S’Klallam Tribe was the lead sponsor making these cash awards possible.

Elle McGlockin’s business plan for Over-Joyed focused on establishing a bakery and café that would be located in the Seattle-area and would provide quality and tasteful beverages and pastries, as well as baking/cooking classes taught by individuals well educated in food industry.  Over-Joyed would offer quality products, a welcoming environment and top-notch customer service.

Mermaid Tears is a business developed by Heavyn Olea and Chantell Schultz.  This business would produce custom jewelry made from completely natural sea glass.  The name of this business is derived from the notion that sea glass is said to be the tears of a mermaid. Wearing this jewelry is meant to provoke the feeling that customer is wearing a part of the ocean.  The artists will utilize naturally shaped and unpolished glass in their creations to preserve the uniqueness.  Continue reading »
